Test for Radon.
It could save your LIFE or the LIFE of a loved one!

Radon is present in all indoor environments and affects the air quality of our homes, schools and workplaces.  The only way to know how much radon is present is to test. Radon testing is easy and inexpensive.

Radon levels in a building continually fluctuate due to external conditions such as the outside temperature, barometric pressure and wind and due to many factors inside the building.  As a result, a long-term radon test will give a more accurate indication of the average radon level in a home than will a short-term test.

Residential Radon Testing

Health Canada recommends that every homeowner test their home for radon through the placement of at least one C-NRPP approved long-term radon detector for a minimum of 91 days during the months of October to April.

Do-It-Yourself Radon Test Kit

Picture
For homeowners who wish to conduct a long-term radon test themselves, we are pleased to offer Do-It-Yourself test kits. These kits are some of the most accurate in the world and have everything you need to complete a radon test in your home. The kits include a radon test device, instructions and a pre-paid mailing label to mail your completed test back to the laboratory for analysis. Laboratory analysis fees are included in the cost of the kit.  The radon test device and laboratory are both C-NRPP approved.

Digital Radon Monitor Purchase and Rental Program

Picture

The Corentium Home by AirThings is a digital radon monitor that will give you radon readings within 24 hours.  This device can help if you want to identify a potentially significant radon problem and don't want to wait the minimum three months for the results from a long-term radon test*.  This digital radon monitor also makes it easy to compare radon readings in different areas of a home home or building.

The Corentium Home is battery-operated and has a three-year battery life, making it very portable. It provides one-day, seven-day and long-term average radon readings.

The Corentium Home can be purchased from Little Bear Engineering for $229 plus GST.  If, after using the monitor, you decide not to keep it, simply return the monitor to us and we will refund your purchase price minus a $35 fee and $1 / day rental charge.

*Please note: we have compared readings from Corentium Home monitors to our C-NRPP-approved, commercial-grade radon monitor and have achieved readings within a reasonable margin of error.  However, homeowner-grade digital radon monitors such as the Corentium Home are relatively new devices and have not yet been approved by the C-NRPP.  Therefore, as C-NRPP Measurement Professionals we must recommend that a C-NRPP-approved radon test device be used to determine if a building should be mitigated.

Purchase a Corentium Home and a Long-Term Do-It-Yourself Radon Test Kit together and save $20.

Let Little Bear Engineering's certified radon measurement professionals help you conduct your long-term radon testing. We will submit the test device to the laboratory for analysis and will provide you with a customized report of results. A follow-up call will be made to review your test results with you.  Additional test devices can be deployed at the residence during the same long-term testing period for a cost of $50 per additional test.

Short-Term Radon Test - $300 plus GST  (3 day test)

Short-term radon tests are most often completed for real estate transactions.  In most states in the US, it is mandatory for a radon test to be completed when a house is sold. Although this is not yet mandatory in Canada, it is still a very good idea. Short-term testing can provide an indication of the potential for a house to have high radon levels. Although long-term testing is recommended by Health Canada prior to mitigation, short-term testing may provide useful information to both potential home buyers and sellers.

Little Bear Engineering's certified radon measurement professionals use a C-NRPP approved digital radon monitor that is equipped with anti-tampering features for short-term radon testing. Results from short-term testing can be provided to clients on the same day that testing is completed.

Please contact us to book a test or to find out more about full-service testing.
